Love the looks of theses sailplanes...Love the price more but can they be launched with a high startt and will they thermal reasonably well or just sink right through the thermals?

My DG1000 arrived today in good condition. However, the wing extensions seem to be faulty, as the upturned tips are at 90 degrees to the extension, so if the extension is added to the wing at about 25 degrees (as per full-size photos) the tips will be leaning inwards quite a lot.
In addition the joint between the extensions and the main part of the wing has no angle chamfer to allow for any change of angle, yet a small steel pin protruding from the extension (presumably to help locate the extension on the wing) is bent upwards considerably to the angle I would have expected.
does anyone else have this issue?
Apart from the fact that the glassfibre layup seems pretty heavy, I like this aircraft...

I finished up chamferring an angle on the glass tip extensions, and then cutting a slot in the wing and the tip using my Dremel. I then cut a "joiner" from an old credit card which fitted into both slots. I then joined the two with epoxy. I decided to use the minimum angle to about 5 degrees. While not scale, it still captures the essence of the full-size, while making the tips less likely to catch on landings.

I just measured the steel wing joiner on my DG1000, and it was 4.45mm. Some earlier reviews mentioned 6mm, but mine is definitely 4.45mm (say 4.5mm)

Is the canopy clear or blue? I've seen pictures of the model with a blue canopy and I will not buy the plane if it's blue.

Well, if you buy two you will have replacement parts for both :-) At this price, I do not see a problem getting the entire kit over again for parts. Also fibre glass is repairable so I would not worry too much.

Also if you look closely (or actually just look at all) on the selection of planes on this site, you will find that there are two versions of this plane available. One is for folding prop motor, and the latest one is a true glider :-)
