forgot to say 8x7 prop and i mounted servo for flaps behind motor i removed motor to do this. get the small hinges. and i used the red gold n rod.

could someone tell me about the useage of the lipo please i have a 2350 and have set the prograhm with the card so that it slowes when the power is low and when i recharge it takes about 2170 to fill i have been told that i am taking the batery to low from one person and this is ok from another i am new to the electric world and very lost thanks (bunta)
Reply:
James (41 points);
as long as you don't go below 3v on any one cell you cant go wrong. when the voltage drops to around 9.5v on a 3 cell lipo its no fun to fly anyway and you know its time to charge. dont worry to much and just land when it becomes noticeably slower.

does some know what kind of shaft go with the moter? a link would be great.

xraydesign (8 points);
You can used the replacement shaft from the tower pro 2410 motor - ***********unitedhobbies****/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=5274
Also, try using one of these props - APC style propeller 9x6-E , They draw slightly more watts then the stock prop on the bench, but in the air the plane gets a longer flight time and goes even faster then the stock prop. It is the perfect prop for this plane.

Heeeeeeeeelp. It's been over 3 weeks now. I can't get the HK T6A tx and HK TR6A to talk (or listen) so I bought a DX5E and AR500 rx. That makes a beeping noise from the front of the aircraft but no servos move. Any ideas guys?
toasthall (0 points);
Make sure the servo connectors are in the right way round. The speed controller will beep like that if it doesn't get the right signal. ie the throttle has to be at low for the speed controller to arm.
giladb (3 points) 10/5/2009
I got NO direction papers, does anybody know how to install the back tail?
Gilad
Reply:
Daniel J. (51 points);
You have to cut away part of the tail section above the slot where the horizontal stab goes (all the way to the rear). You'll need to remove about 1" of foam so the elevator will deflect up all the way.

Reply:
Takly (95 points);
skyartec dot com > Products > Spare Parts > Cessna Spare Parts will tell you it's a 1530kv bell type brushless outrunner :D
frank (20 points);
That's because the post-system wants you to pay for size of package as well, so the big size of the box makes it cost equal to 2.8 kilo smaller package.
frank (20 points) 8/29/2009
Thank you Takly - I see your point exactly, switching is what I might have to do. I'm just not that comfortable about soldering I guess... There was some talk about Hobbyking switching to a new "standard" plug also, and it's not deans.. So if I am going to change the plugs I would like to have that exact type, so I don't have to solder anything every time I buy a new battery !
I had already checked both Parts & Accs, and Skyartec website, but without much luck, but thanks for your input anyway !
At the moment my flying is a little limited, so 2 batteries keeps me going very well, but will have to do something about this problem sooner or later. Maybe just order a bunch of bullet connectors and solder, but would prefer to have the new standard from HobbyKing.. It kind of sucks that plugs often don't even show in battery pictures...
Reply:
frank (20 points);
An update on battery-connectors: The 3.5mm gold connectors (bullet connectors) from HobbyKing are the same as the ones used in this cessna. I have not seen any batteries here that come with these. The plastic protector is different, and better than the ones on the plane, so one might as well change it.
So I guess soldering, and the occasional burning of fingers is a necessary evil to keep this great bird flying !
Daniel J. (51 points);
I just changed my batteries and planes over to the EC3 plug. It's the blue one ith 2ea 3.5 bullet type connectors. It seems to be the up and coming standard plug. Not hard to solder but you should use a 40 watt soldering iron.
I also use EC3's & EC5's, but not all of my whole fleet of rotary & fixed wing has been converted yet.
A long time ago, I had a difficult time soldering EC3's by following the e-flte website. The solder just wouldn't stick. But after developing my own method it's now much much easier and no more cold solders!
Personally, I prefer the EC3's over the XT60 couplers as the EC3 has been an industry standard much longer than the XT and plus, disconnecting the EC3 is easier due to better gripping on the plastics.
Who knows? After the XT60, there will be a newer standard connector. When will it end?
frank (20 points) 8/27/2009
I've had this plane for about a month now, and am very happy with it. But I have a simple problem - the battery connectors that come with the original battery, can I get more of them anywhere ? I have other batteries with different connectors that I'd like to use with this plane...
Reply:
Takly (95 points);
I've not been in the game long, Frank, but one of the first lessons I learned was to buy one type of plug (such as Deans) and stick to them across the board. The first thing I do with a new battery now is dice off the stock connectors and fit Deans plugs.
I can't recall what the stock Skyartec battery connector looks like, but from memory, it wasn't a 'standard'. Perhaps switching to Deans or bullet plugs may be easier for you in the long run. It just takes a few minutes of soldering per battery & esc to standardise your gear :D
If you wish to stick with the stock plug, I recommend checking out HobbyCity's "Parts & Accs." menu, then go to "Plugs/Wire etc..." to see if anything looks like it may fit. Alternatively, try www dot skyartec dot com (Skyartec's website, obviously) to see if they happen to sell the plugs separately. Good luck!
James (0 points);
I used the 4mm pack of 10 pairs. They soldered easily onto ECS and LIPO wires if you put plenty of heat into plug when lightly gripped vertically in a tiny vice. When hot insert the wire and hold in place for a few secs while blowing on it. GOOD TIP: slide a couple of inches of drinking straw over the wires at connection - saves shorting your electrics

Does it have steerable front wheel? And does it already have a spar in the wing or is it just a popular upgrade? Has anyone loaded it with 250-300 gramms of extra load, how does she handle it? I plan to use it for FPV, i currently use a similar cessna (art tech) but with non-steerable front gear and its a pain in the neck to take off or land. Also does it have a servo for each aileron? What's 4 servos for if not?
Reply:
Takly (95 points);
Yup, it comes with one steerable, flippable, easily bent front wheel *) i actually ended up changig the position of the control horns in closer on the servo arm just to tame it a little. I recommend removing the wheel pants and replacing the wheels themselves unless you're mad keen for the scale looks. I put on a set of the fluoro green 40mm 5spoke wheels available on HC and she can comfortably land and taxi on short grass (cricket pitch/football field etc). Before replacing the wheels, I won 1st prize in the "Nosing Over" contest every weekend. so much so that i've had to slice open the vertical stab and throw in a carbon rod to stop the flex! Sadly I no longer receive that honour *)
As for weight, i put a medium sinker in the front To balance her out, but found she lost her floatiness, especially on final. As i've changed the wheels, i might try it again.
This baby has 2 aileron servos, 1 for nose wheel and rudder and 1 for elevators.
Takly (95 points);
Uhh... by horn i meant clevis, of course. It also comes with a rod installed in the wings. I'm considering some struts also, because the flex is crazy during a loop o heavy turns. Recommend replacing the nylon Wing bolts with metal ones if you're going to push her. I only noticed mine were stressed after removing the wings to change receivers.

Has anyone tried another battery pack and which?

Takly (95 points);
Read up a few lines and you'll get various answers. I use Turnigy 3s 1300mAh 20-30c. They're a tight fit into the stock compartment, but a great battery. Easily get 15 min flights varying between some pattern flying and throwing in some fairly aggressive aerobatics.
Daniel J. (51 points);
The Turnigy 13 Mah 20C 3S is the best. It's tight to fit in the battery compartment but the plane is a rocket with it and it's light enough to glide with. My friend and I get 20 min flights out of it easily and it doesn't even get warm.
VANG-BIRD (38 points);
the motor's shaft is 3mm. So you have to find a spinner that fits 3mm shaft. Don't see why not to use a folding prop. In my plane i cut the shaft to fit a prop saver. I think it's better than the spinner for beginners.
Ralf Noonan (31 points) 6/19/2009
Be careful, it flies much faster than it looks. It demands very fast response from pilot, by pitch and by elerons. Pay attention, please. It's a "Cessna rocket" :)
Then, it depends of thrust. More thrust - nose up, less thrust - nose down. So, hand launch must be done running, and throwing a little up, to give a plane initial speed. Else, it will dig into earth and beat it's nose.
Ralf Noonan (31 points) 6/19/2009
Probably, the dimensions of the battery compartment will be useful: 70x39, h=36 mm
VANG-BIRD (38 points) 6/12/2009
Hi guys, I received it and seems that a quarter of an hour is enough to be RTF. Every thing seems in tact. I pluged the battery and the ESC plays a song. Is it possible to quit this by the TX-stick instead of using a programming card? Anybody ho can answer?? Many thanks.
When it starts to play the tune, move the tx throttle stick up a little and the music will stop - no need to get the Turnigy programming card unless you like to.
Timothy (0 points) 6/10/2009
After hooking up the receiver and the battery all the servos work, but the speed controller continues to beep and the engine won't turn. The battery is charged above 12 volts. What might be the problem?
Reply:
Flew Boy (268 points);
Hi Timothy, try this trick, it works for most speed controllers, putt your throttle to full, turn on your transmitter, plug the battery into the speed controller, wait for the first beep then pull your throttle back to zero, this should set the throttle range for the speed controller. I hope this gets you in the air mate.

hi guys, I am just wondering whether the included esc has a bec built in or whether I need to buy one separately. thanks!
Reply:
luckyko222 (38 points);
The esc has a bec. Everything you need is in the box except the tx and rx.
A very nice scale looking foamie. The supplied 18A esc can be programmed with a Turnigy P/Card to get rid of the music and set cell cut off to low. The brushless motor pulls 16.7A peak on the stock prop at 11.1v and the LiPo holds 1107Mah. 8x6 Prop which sits on a M3 threaded drive shaft. My copy of the foamie had two factory defects requiring some modeling a) the elevator had to be split from the horizontal stab, inserted into the fuse then I inserted CA'd 4 mini Dubro hinges. You can also see in the photos above that the fuselage foam has to be relieved just under the rudder to allow the elevator to swivel up fully. The other defect was one of the ladies at the factory has been putting the nose wheel steering horn on the wrong side so I got left steering with right rudder - easy fix by swiveling the horn 180° - I also had to carefully add CA to the nose system to get rid of the slop. The servos work fine with my Spektrum 6200 and centre OK. Clevises are flimsy and are free to pop open so I added some silicone tube retainers. The manual is bad and does not give a sensible C of G (I moved it 30mm back just forward of the centre of pressure from their stated battery centre spot) or control throws so not the best for novices. It is a well made model, tough and fantastic value - Good one HC.

Cessna combo - excelent deal

I received this plane 5 days ago. In short: it is a very good deal.
Longer review: I have also a Artech Cessna (my first plane, so I'll compare this two) - plane is well packet, small risk of damage at transport. - the foam is high quality, I think the best foam styro ever seen. Artech is nice but this is better. Al tough in pictures look identical in reality the dimensions are slightly different everywhere. You cannot mix them ( I didn't even try) - The servo are OK and well secured. Nothing to do here. - the decals are OK but on the heavy side, you can live with them, a small drop of glue here and there to fix them whell - ailerons are functional but not great. I striped the tape and put a new one. A lot better, but hey, I have the time and pleasure to do it. - clevis are very week, one broke in my hand, no big deal. - my field is high grass so the wheels are of no interest for me. - the propeller was badly out of balance, need a lot of tape to do it perfect. - the esc didn't arm without the trotle trim at minimum. Of course you have to program it because otherwise it will not work at all. The Turnigy programing card work with it, so no problem here (if you don't forget to order one :) - the screw securing the wing are of bad quality, I had to replace them.
Total build time with all the trimming around 3 hours. If you take your time the plane ends up nice. If you are a beginner it is a good idea to put some tape on the sensitive parts, wing and fuselage. B

Aucun soucis. Very good product for an ultra competitiv cost. Take care to cut the foam at rear of plane to put the rear wing in. There's a little mark under decalco, check before cut. Everything is OK, first setting are very easy, supllied glue is OK and you can remove the parts if you made a mistake. I prefer use this glue than cyano for first time mount. Brushless Controller is really great and already set. Motor is so powerful. No problem with it, you can buy eyes closed.

I bought this nice looking plane especially for a foamie.Very nice except for a few fix it issues if you are an above average flyer. One was the front landing gear installed backwards. My fix for that was taking the prop and cowling off as the motor seemed a bit loose so I cut a peice of balsa and epoxied it under the plastic motor mount.That made it much stronger and also check all the screws in that section for tightness as some were loose. The front wheel has a collar thatis too small ant the gear is very wewk and falls out as you pull on it so I got it all aligned with my rudder and soldered it in place and I've had very solid landings now and everything else on the plane was fine.One other fix I did which I put a little weight on but is worth it, is use packing tape wherever you feel stress spots an d wher it bends real easy. I did those fixes to the plane. sound like a lot} but the little plane flies like a nitro plane nice and solid and good on landing off dirt or asphalt. Happy Landings!!!!!!!

Great starters kit, all you need is your own radio and lipo charger. I am already on my second of these little beauties, this is due to my over confidence in my flying skills. But still very happy with the purchase. The motor combo certainly gets this thing to do what you want it to and the battery give you atleast 15mins flying on 3/4 power. During the build you do have to splice the rear tail section to get the elevators into position which does not indicate this in the manuel, but this glues back with no probs and does not affect performance. The undercarriage is unfortunately, under done. The coupling from the servo to the wheel stem is far to short and falls out on the first landing. The servo link also needs to be turned 180 degrees to operate in the correct direction. This is a great buy for a learner and appart from the above mentioned details, I have thoroughly enjoyed my flying time with this product.

As always the price is great. Model comes with everything needed to fly except transmitter and receiver. Servos are of good quality, nothing too fancy but work well for this plane. They were pre-glued in their slots. The glue included in kit for connecting horizontal and vertical fins isn't fast enought, it took 24hrs to dry. I didnt like the stickers much because they were constantly letting off. The material itself is rather brittle, breaks easily and is not so elastic like Elapor. This is one reason why i dont recommend this plane to beginners. It likes to fly fast but has quite strange characteristic in turns so it requires a bit of practice. Glides very well but also stalls and drops wing faster than it should. The included 3s 1000mAh battery pack lasts for about 15 minutes of fun. What i really like are the ailerons, front wheel steering and overall look. If You are beginner looking for a plane to start, forget about it unless You have enought money to order few rtf's:)

The fantastic plane for beginners. The plane is well packed and at transfer was not damaged. The powerful motor perfectly holds the plane in air and allows carrying out complex figures. Little bit weak forward rack, it needs to be altered. I am very contented with the quality of the airplane. It is a great airplane, good management, good to hover and the price is the best thing.

I can't stress enough what a fantastic little plane this is. Build quality is the best I've ever seen on a foamie, finish is excellent, and the supplied ESC, servos and brushless motor work perfectly. Do yourself a favour and buy one of these - you won't be dissapointed, and at the price it's practically a giveaway.

Very good plane but a bit too agile for beginners. The overall construction is strong and the foam is excellent. The wing screws weren't strong and accurate enough so I replaced them with metal ones. The ailerons, rudder and elevator should have plastic hinges. The best part was the price!!

Very good plane indeed.Easy to setup, had to turn the front wheel the other side because it was reversed (as many other reviewers did.) Its VERY VERY fast with this brushless motor.Also great battery lasts 15 minutes with normal flying.The only thing you have to do is cut a little the rear tail so the elevetor moves freely.A beginner needs 20 minutes to be ready to fly. Overall i am very pleased with the quality and construction of the foam-glossy like, and electronics. 5 stars from me, good for beginners also. Very nice package strong and good delivery. Received undamaged.

Received my plane after 1 week. Good packing, no damages to the contents. I consider myself an amateur with flying, so I was pretty nervous before the first flight, but it went really well. I hand-launched it and it just climbed straight to the skyes. It's a bit snappy, but already on my second flight, I could easily do acrobatics with it. GREAT FUN!!!!!

This plane is a great deal. The ailerons were not mounted correctly, but it was fixed quickly. Also when mounting the elevator, it is necessary to cut some more foam to allow the elevator to move up. It is not described in the manual. Anyway, this plane deserves 5 stars, I can recommend it!
